explanation

[edit]

I added a {{deadlink}} tag and {{unreferenced}} tag to this article. It cited one reference, but that link had gone 404.

Further, the URL was not to the actual publication, but to http:stuff.nz, a site that republishes fair use copies from real publications. Many contributors are concerned when we cite fair use copies, as references. They are concerned because the republishers aren't respecting the original author's copyright, and their claims of fair use are unjustified. And they are concerned because we don't know when republishers, who aren't WP:RS, rewrite material credited to authors who are WP:RS.

The external links says that the article relies on a Catholic Encyclopedia from 1913. I don't count that as referenceing the article, because we don't know which passages rely on the Catholic Encyclopedia.

The article, as written, has clues that large passages from the Catholic Encyclopedia article were simply cut and paste into this article, when they really should have been rewritten in order to comply with WP:NPOV. Geo Swan (talk) 15:34, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Years

[edit]

The article says:

After years of living a highly religious way of life in Spain resulting from a conversion experience, in 1535 he founded his first hospital at Granada, where he served the sick and afflicted. After ten years spent in the exercise of charity, he died 8 March 1550
(bold added)

I suppose that 1535 ha been misquoted from somewhere and should be 1539. The article John_of_God has him being converted in 1537. He built his hospital after that. Check in other sources. Mendelo (talk) 13:19, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
