Copyright question
[edit]I'm new to Wikipedia and don't fully understand about copyright in the context of 'public domain'. The text I wrote here is mostly copied from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation website, mellon.org. The work doesn't appear to be explcitly copyrighted, so is this considered the public domain? If not, should the text be re-written or would the page be removed, or what? --RickAguirre 16:51, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Basically, everything is copyright unless it says it isn't and you can't use copyright material without explicit permission from the owner. This text should be removed but I don't have time to do it right now (as I have to get to a meeting) and you might well have rewritten it by the time I get back. It's quite simple to do by rephrasing but it must be "substantially" different (i.e. different in substance, not just one word changed.) These sites are good sources of info but you must rewrite and not simply cut and paste. Thanks for your contribution and please continue to learn more and contribute.Cutler 17:05, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)
