Rather than editing the article myself and commit a faux pas of writing about what I did/was involved in, I err on the side of not being bold, especially since the original author of the article still seem to be active/watching. Once it's done please delete this Talk entry. I would have preferred to email the author, but such information is not available.
- First of all, rather than being an article on it's own, this should be a section in the minesweeper article.
- Secondly, 3BV as "a method to define the difficulty of boards" is way too strong. 3BV give some indication of the difficulty of boards as a matter of statistical average, even this is not proven (although I have tried it on some data from my own plays). Also see Stephan Bechtel's own webpage[1] on this.
- Third, having a history is a bit over, a simple paragraph introducing what 3BV is followed by a description of the method is more appropriate I think.
Anyway the history is not quite right.
The "click count" as it's previously called, had been around before June 2002.
What happened in June 2002 is as follows:
- I got 64s in expert, and was skeptical of it so I posted on Damien Moore's guestbook (which is referred to in the article as "Official Guestbook").
- Stephan Bechtel was one of those who replied, and he asked me for the "click count"
- In the ensuing email exchanges I gave him the screen shot and he taught me about the method, I suggested the name 3BV
- Stephan actually suspected Lasse Nyholm Jensen "invented" the method, so I posted a challenge on the guestbook for whoever wants to claim as the "inventor"
- At that time I had already been working on the "Minesweeper Board Reader". The idea was requested by Yoni Roll
- No one else did, and as I released Minesweeper Board Reader Beta 2, which included a 3BV counter, the name stuck since then.
- Both Yoni Roll and Stephan Bechtel contributed as testers on the development of Minesweeper Board Reader Beta 2, development was later handed over to Yoni as I started Uni.
- Sorin Manea had released his Mouse Hook before Minesweeper Board Reader Beta 2, his later release added 3BV counter on top of the mouse-hooking functionality.
These are just point summary of what actually happened, which is also talked about in my profile at the Active Ranking[2]. The relevant parts are section 2, paragraphs 2-5.

[edit]Benjamin, this is Robert Benditz. Feel free to edit the history if have solid information, of which I am sure. I think 3BV is more than just a mere indicator, for nfers its definitely a very reliable method. Having a history doesnt harm, does it? You never know how important it once will be. :p
I appreciate your help. Cya
Re:response
[edit]It would be inappropriate for me to write about something I am involved in, particularly something I named. So please consider my input above instead. Especially about merging this into the Minesweeper article instead of being on its own.
While 3BV is quite reliable as an indicator of board difficulty, it still is an indicator rather than a definite relation.
Well, IMO the history is not really something siginificant enough for Wikipedia, if this was a Minesweeper Wiki I would have agreed with you.
Oh BTW, I think the proper wording is to have "coined the name .." rather than "invented the name .."
