Ljerka Šibenik (Zagreb, May 19 1935), Croatian visual artist and painter.

She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1962 and attended the Master Workshop of Croatian painter Krsto Hegedušić from 1962 to 1964. Ljerka Šibenik is known as an innovator in environmental art in Croatian contemporary art, and her work includes complex structures and luminokinetic objects. Some of her most famous works include "Crni ambijent 1", "Crni objekt 2", and "Altuglas I", created in 1968. These works explore relationships between space, color, and form, using UV lights to create spatial illusions, opening the door to new artistic approaches in Croatia.^[1][2][3]

Throughout her career, Ljerka Šibenik was the director of Gallery Nova in Zagreb from 1975 to 2003, where she promoted young artists and avant-garde creators. Her role in the gallery was crucial for the development of the contemporary art scene in Croatia, and her environments and objects influenced many generations of artists who followed.^[1][3][4]

Despite her significance, Ljerka Šibenik has been less present in the exhibition scene over the years, which has led to her work becoming less recognized. Nevertheless, her contribution to Croatian art is significant.^[1][2]
