Italian American Museum of Los Angeles

Hey, I noticed you've been working on cleaning up the article (good for you!). You may have noticed that I've been doing a little work on it as well. Looks like our COI editor has calmed down, so I figured it'd probably be safe for me to lose my ability to act in an administrative capacity vis-a-vis the editor. I have a question, though, about the Events section. Without additional context as to what the event is about, I don't think it's noteworthy. If the event had a Wikipedia article, I'd feel differently, but just because something is sourced doesn't mean it should be included. What do you think? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 12:06, 20 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Bbb23: To be completely honest, I was just doing what I did kind of because I lacked anything else better to do at the moment and not because of any particular interest in the subject matter. I figured I see what I could source (even if the sources weren't the greatest) so that others could then look things over a figure out whether what to do next. When I started working on that particular section, I tried to use what was already there and see what might work. To me personally, though, most of those events didn't really seem to be much to write about (certainly not major enough to generate anything other that coverage in niche press or local type sources), but I could understand how someone interested in that particular genre (museums in general or ethnicity museums in particular) might feel differently. Perhaps WP:WikiProject Museums might be a good place to ask for input, but if others feel the content is not worth mentioning at all or perhaps only worth being treated sort of as a "discography" for a museum, I wouldn't have any problems with that. FWIW, I was probably going to step back from the article anyway today so that others could have go at it. The COI editor seems to have figured out how to use the talk page to ask for changes; so, I was thinking it would be better to le them go through that for awhile. This is probably a longer and more rambling response than you were looking for: so, my apologies for that. Brevity isn't a strong suit of mine anyway, but especially not so early in the morning. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:57, 20 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the belated response. I've been a bit distracted lately, mostly IRL. I don't mind long responses as long as they're readable, and yours is. I've kind of lost interest in the article and the COI editor.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:53, 21 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
As long as the COI editor continues to follow WP:COIADVICE, things will most likely be OK; if, on the other hand, they try to color too much outside the lines, some adminstrator will likely take their crayons away. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:55, 21 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
I agree it's odd - along with the username - but it's not really up my alley.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:54, 21 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

About the image uploads

edit

Hello, I unerstand that my images were unsourced - I was just using them for the sandbox page temporarily. I assumed they'd auto delete after a couple days based on the notifications I was getting but I don't know if that's actually the case. How can I remove them manually? I don't want to keep them up if they violate Wikipedia's policy. Let me know KebBadErikSteveJobs (talk) 22:25, 21 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi KebBadErikSteveJobs. You can request that the files be speedily deleted per WP:G7; just go to each file's page, click "edit" and add the syntax {{db-author}} to the top of the editing window. Once you've done that, add an edit summary, click "Show preview" to check your work and finally click "Publish changes" if everything seems OK. An administrator will delete the file shortly thereafter.
Finally, if you're looking for images to use for testing things in your sandbox, Wikimedia Commons hosts lots of images that should be OK from a licensing standpoint and that will work in your sandbox. Be careful, though, when using images of living people, particulary if you're doing so in a way that might be a problem per WP:BLPIMAGE, since WP:BLP applies to all Wikipedia pages, including user sandboxes. A good generic image like the placeholder images in c:Category:Persons placeholders in English tend to work fine for testing purposes in one's user sandbox. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:41, 21 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I've tagged all my images with that syntax. Thank you for the help, I won't upload unsourced images in the future. Have a nice day KebBadErikSteveJobs (talk) 22:53, 21 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Question from Drspsingh25 (05:34, 22 February 2025)

edit

hello what to write in about me so that not deleted --Drspsingh25 (talk) 05:34, 22 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi Drspsingh25. There's some information posted on your user talk page that contains blue links to Wikipedia information pages you might find helpful. Did you at look at any of those pages? It looks like you're trying to create a userpage, but you're not doing so in accordance with Wikipedia's user page guidelnes. Please take a look at Wikipedia:User pages#What may I have in my user pages? because it explains the type of content considered OK for one's user page. Please also take a look at Wikipedia:User pages#What may I not have in my user pages? because it explains the type of kind of content not considered OK for one's user page. A user page isn't like a free personal website where we can post whatever we want; rather, it's something Wikipedia lets us borrow and use for free, but only as long as we do so in accordance with Wikipedia's user page guidelines. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:12, 22 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hey I have edited pages and published them and it still says i have 0 edits why is this --101FactChecker (talk) 16:57, 24 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

If you look at Special:Contributions/101FactChecker, you'll be able to see a record of all the edits you've made with your account. The edit history for your account can be found here; it shows you've made two edits since you're account was created on February 10, 2025. Is it possible that you were editing using another account or as an unregistered IP account before that day? If so, those edits will not show up in the editing history of this particular account. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:53, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

I am the creator and copyright holder of this media which are photographs from a personal album owned by me and the copyright retained by me. You need to remove this tag immediately. It is completely incorrect to assert that these images were taken from a publication or online. These are private images created and belonging to me because the subject matter in question is related. Again, the points outlined on being taken from a publication or online (when I am the holder of the original images and these can only be used online with my permission) are baseless. Wikiaddict8962 (talk) 08:50, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Physical possession of a photo isn't the same as owning the copyright of the photo; if, however, you did take these photos yourself, then all you need to do is to send a WP:CONSENT email to Wikimedia VRT for verification purposes. There's no information about the provenances of these photo, and they certainly couldn't have been taken on the dates you listed in their file descriptions; so, the more information you can provide about them, the easier it will be to sort them out. FWIW, they are of such poor quality that they do look like scans of an old newspaper or some other type of print publication. Since you say that's not the case, all you need to do is to verify that you're the copyright holder of the photos with Wikimedia VRT. -- Marchjuly (talk)
