Windhelm's Champion is a quest available in The Elder Scrolls Online. During the traditional Footrace of the Nine Holds, one of the competitors, Hadring the Swift, was shot and killed by a poisoned arrow. The assassins have fled the city, but Thane Mera Stormcloak appoints the Vestige as Justice Carl of Windhelm and tasks them with bringing the assassins to justice.

Background[]

Thane Mera, enraged by the death of the racer Hadring, demands that the assassins pay for this crime. She wants me, Windhelm's Champion, to deal with this—personally.

Objectives[]

  1. Talk to Thane Mera Stormcloak
  2. Follow the Assassins
    OR:
  3. Talk to Witnesses
  4. Collect Evidence
  5. Retrieve Assassin's Orders
  6. Talk to Mera Stormcloak

Walkthrough[]

During the events of "The Konunleikar," one of the contestants was assassinated. After informing Mera Stormcloak, she will tell the Vestige the following.

Windhelm's Champion 2

"Someone must have seen something during the race. The assassins fled after their cowardly attack, but every rat has a hole to hide in. You must find that hole.

I'll find the assassins. "I don't want you to just find the assassins. I want you to hunt them down like the rabid dogs they are and dispatch them with haste and extreme prejudice. Do we understand each other, Champion?"
I understand perfectly. "I'm taking the gauntlets off and granting you the authority to do whatever is necessary to deal with these assassins. I name you as Justice Carl of Windhelm. Dispense your authority as needed and deal with this as quickly as you can.
I'll find someone who saw what happened. "Excellent. I will mobilize the guard and patrol the city. King Jorunn must be protected. When you find the assassins, destroy them. Bring me back something to prove to the King that the situation has been dealt with."

The Vestige must now look for witnesses to the assassination of Hadring, with the nearest being a nonchalant Dunmer named Turril Omalor. He can be intimidated into giving up information if the player has the corresponding perk, upon which he will tell the Vestige he saw a Stormfist thug fleeing the scene of the murder and heading south out of the city. After following his directions, the Vestige will arrive at a small Stormfist encampment. They must defeat the assassins and take the Stormfist Brigade Emblem from the corpse of one of the assassins, which Mera Stormcloak requires as evidence of the assassins' allegiance. Heading further south towards a large tent, the Vestige must defeat two more assassins, after which they can examine the Assassin's Orders. It reveals King Jorunn's brother, Fildgor, is the one who ordered the assassination of Hadring as part of his plan to assassinate his brother. Upon returning to Mera and presenting her with the evidence, she will say the following.

Windhelm's Champion 3

"The guards found more caches of weapons hidden around the city, but nothing else. I hope you had better luck."

I found a camp outside the city. You should see these. "King Jorunn's exiled brother, Fildgor, used to run the Stormfist Brigade. That's his symbol, added to the Stormfist emblem. And these orders... Fildgor has returned to Skyrim! King Jorunn must be told. Hopefully, it's not too late."

Upon which the quest will be completed.
