Walkthrough[]

Upon completing Through the Daedric Lens, Kireth Vanos will tell you that the observation notes the daedra made on each holding cell may be relevant for breaking the spell's hold on the mages. Read these for information on each of the prisoners; Remember this information well, as it becomes important later in the quest. If you're on PC, making screenshots of this information can be helpful. Then proceed along the path to the library proper. Your first objective here is to find the real Raynor Vanos. there are three versions of Raynor in the western rooms; one is real, the others are illusions. The observation notes mention that Raynor is being held in the room with the yellow crystals and the eye of Hermaeus Mora banner; this applies to the southernmost room. Speak to him and snap him out of the spell. You can persuade him out of it; if you can't do that, you'll have to fetch his sister Kireth.

Up next, you'll need to identify the real Lady Clarisse Laurent, in the southern rooms. The notes mention she's in the room with the cross of Meridia banner and the blue crystals. This is the westernmost room; speak with her and she'll break out of the spell. Your last target is Telenger the Artificer, in the eastern rooms. He is supposedly held in the room with the Star of Azura banner and the blue crystals. This is the middle room, but once you get there, you'll only find a note. It mentions that Telenger has locked himself in a vault in the lower levels, to see if he can find an escape before the spell takes him.

To reach the vault, head to the lower level of the central room. You can use the stairs in the south, or you can jump and sustain some damage. Head north through the hallway then east around the corner, and you'll find yourself in a sizeable room. on the other side of this room, you'll find the vault where Telenger hid himself. Talk to him through the door and he will mention that the vault contains a portal emanating overwhelming power. He suspects it's one of the Lights of Meridia, and he hopes to use its power in the battle against Molag Bal. Head into his vault, then talk to him again. He will ask you to go through the portal and find the source of power. He will also give you a token that should allow you to return to the portal should you get lost on the other side.

Head through the portal, then cross the bridge on the other side. You will find one of the Lights of Meridia there, on a pedestal. Take it, and a projection of King Laloriaran Dynar will appear to tell you to bring these lights to him, as they can free him from Bal's prison. Anyway, head back through the portal and out of the library. The mages will be waiting near the wayshrine to the northwest. Speak with Telenger here to finish the quest.
