The Barbarian and the Book is a miscellaneous quest in The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal. The Nerevarine comes across a Nord named Thrud wandering around Godsreach, and aids them in their search for their friend, Dilborn.

Objectives[]

  1. Speak with Thrud
  2. Enter the Residential Sewers with Thrud
  3. Speak with Drathas Nerus
    • (Either) Negotiate Dilborn's debt down to 1,000 Gold and pay it off
    • (Or) Attack Nerus and the bandits
  4. Speak with Thrud once again

Walkthrough[]

While exploring Morrowind's capital city of Mournhold, the Nerevarine may come across a Nord named Thrud. Thrud, a barbarian by birth, is searching for his friend, and teacher, Dilborn, whom disappeared three days previously and has not been seen since. Thrud, in his simple broken sentences, asks that the Nerevarine help find his friend.

Sewer Socials[]

Thrud states that Dilborn frequently entered the Residential Sewers to speak to friends, although Thrud is unsure who they are. With Thrud in tow, the Nerevarine must enter the Sewers, heading to a deadend in the eastern part of the main area in order to find Dilborn. Surrounded by several bandits, Dilborn is being held captive by a Dunmer named Drathas Nerus, to whom Dilborn owes a large sum of money. The Nerevarine is now faced with a choice.

Reduced Ransom[]

The Nerevarine may attempt to negotiate with Nerus, who states that Dilborn holds a 3,000 Gold debt. This figure can either be paid, or reduced through raising Nerus' disposition, although Nerus will only go as low as 1,000 Gold. Once the debt has been paid, the Nerevarine may speak to Thrud, whom will reward them with a book, Trap.

Cutting the Captors[]

Alternatively, the Nerevarine may choose to simply attack Nerus, although his two associates will immediately pounce upon the defenceless Dilborn. They will also attack Dilborn if the Nerevarine attempts to Intimidate Nerus into letting him go, with the Nerevarine needing to kill all three before Dilborn and Thrud can be reunited. Thrud will assist in the fight, and will again reward the Nerevarine with a copy of Trap.

Once the Nerevarine has spoken to Thrud, the quest is completed.
