Max von Sydow, (April 10, 1929 – March 8, 2020) was a Swedish actor who narrated the announcement trailer for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and voiced Esbern in the game itself.
He starred in many movies and had supporting roles in dozens more. He performed in movies filmed in many languages, including Swedish, Norwegian, English, Italian, German, Danish, French and Spanish.
Some of his most memorable film roles included knight Antonius Block in Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal, Jesus in The Greatest Story Ever Told, Father Merrin in The Exorcist, Joubert in Three Days of the Condor, The Three Eyed Raven in Game of Thrones, and Ming the Merciless in the 1980 version of Flash Gordon. His appearance as Emperor Ming in Flash Gordon also served as the visual inspiration for Tiber Septim's design in the Redguard intro.
On March 9th 2020 his family announced that he passed away the previous day.
