The Fugitive is the player character and protagonist in The Elder Scrolls: Blades.
Background[]
- "I have to say I was a bit worried when I heard the Emperor had agreed to the Aldmeri Dominion's terms... Outlawing the Blades, slaughtering them in the streets. I wasn't sure you'd survive."
- ―Henrik Seven-Swords[src]
The Fugitive was a member of the Blades during the Great War between the Septim Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion. When they had left their hometown, the grandfather of its current Imperial vassal, Urzoga gra-Batul, was still alive. Upon their return, they discovered the Town had been destroyed following a tax collection which had gone wrong. The town was largely burned, with most citizens having fled, and every building being destroyed. The Fugitive would have to rebuild the Town and discover the cause of the damage.
History[]
The Fugitive was a member of the Blades, a group formerly responsible for the protection of the Emperor as well as intelligence and espionage activities for the Empire. At the outbreak of the Great War, the Blades were hunted down by the Thalmor to near extinction and later disbanded.[1] The Fugitive was able to avoid the fate of other Blades and went into hiding, later returning to their hometown after the war to find it burning with only few citizens, including Junius the Elder, remaining.[2]
While investigating the events leading up to the town near destruction, the Fugitive learns that fire broke out after an explosion of flames and green light caused by the breaking of a statue of the town's founder during an attempt by the Bloodfall Queen to collect taxes.[3] The Fugitive makes it their mission to aide Junius in restoring the town, finding the townsfolk, and solving the mystery of the explosion caused by the destruction of the statue.[2][4][5]
Trivia[]
- The Fugitive's default name is "Bendu Olo." Although the Fugitive is not directly referred to as such by anyone in-game, this is the name used for the player in the game files as well as during Bethesda's E3 2018 presentation.[6]
- The Fugitive becomes known locally as "Warrior," "Hero," "Savior," and "Champion" as well as various other titles in the Arena.[source?]
