House of Clan Shatter-Shield.
Clan Shatter-Shield is a non-joinable faction in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The Shatter-Shields are a wealthy Nordic family that live in House of Clan Shatter-Shield in the city of Windhelm. They control a trading shipping business.
Background[]
The patriarch of the clan is Torbjorn Shatter-Shield, husband of Tova Shatter-Shield, they have two daughters named Nilsine and Friga. Unfortunately, Friga was murdered by the the Butcher, leaving the family heartbroken and cynical, especially Tova.
A young Breton woman named Muiri also grew up with the Shatter-Shield family, being a close friend to Nilsine. Muiri got in a love relationship with a man named Alain Dufont, a criminal and swindler. Taking profit of Muiri's affections for him, Dufont used her to steal some of the Shatter-Shield's riches, most notably Aegisbane. The Shatter-Shields later discovered Dufont and Muiri's plot, while Dufont abandoned Muiri and fled with the riches, the poor woman was expelled from Windhelm and forced to go live in Markarth. Later, Muiri hired the Dark Brotherhood to assassinate Dufont, bringing Nilsine as an optional target.
If the Dragonborn chooses to assassinate Nilsine, the family will be even more heartbroken, which will cause Tova to commit suicide in her own home, writing in a suicide letter that she couldn't endure the death of both her daughters, leaving Torbjorn as the last surviving member of the family.
The Shatter Shields were also known for their successful and rich trading and shipping company, which was rivals with the East Empire Company of Windhelm. In order to destroy competition, Torbjorn hired an outlaw pirate group known as the Blood Horkers to take care of the East Empire Company. The plot was discovered by the Dragonborn and the employees of the trading company, which proceeded to disband the Blood Horkers. Torbjorn was also known to treat his Argonian workers harshly, often giving them low revenues and placing horrible working conditions, this caused Scouts-Many-Marshes to tell the Dragonborn to convince Torbjorn to ease their working conditions.
