Acilius Bolar was a member of The Blades.
Background[]

Acilius was originally stationed at Cloud Ruler Temple. After the Thalmor attacked the Blades stronghold during the Great War, he was the only known survivor of the attack. From there, Bolar traveled north to Skyrim, eventually ending up at Bloated Man's Grotto.
The Blades were further disbanded when the War ended with the signing of the White-Gold Concordat between the Empire and Aldmeri Dominion. So, the Thalmor continued hunting down any survivors in the ensuing years.
As such, he was pursued by the Thalmor, and eventually found him. However, to prevent the Thalmor from desecrating the shrine, Bolar went to "face his death with honor."[1] He left behind his sword and a note explaining why he left, and that he asks that whoever finds his sword to meet death the same way he did.
Trivia[]
- During the quest "Ill Met by Moonlight," the shrine will have disappeared, removing any sign of Acilius Bolar from the game.
