The Groucho is an enemy in EarthBound Beginnings. It can be encountered in Magicant and the Crystal Cavern. It attacks physically and sometimes ends the battle abruptly, giving 50 EXP to a random member. This enemy's battle theme is Battle with a Flippant Foe.
Defensively, the Groucho has 35 HP and 90 DEFENSE. Offensively, it has 20 OFFENSE, 20 FIGHT, and 20 SPEED. Its resilience to Status Ailments is 20 WISDOM, 20 STRENGTH, and 20 FORCE. It drops 3 EXP, but gives 50 to 1 member if he runs away, and $12 when defeated.

Groucho's unique "attack"
- The name of this enemy, as well as its appearance, is based on the comedian Groucho Marx. The say-hello-and-leave technique is also a reference to Animal Crackers, a Marx Brothers movie. In the movie, Groucho sings a song called in which he states, "Hello, I must be going."
- In the companion guide, he is called "Bonus Swoosh" in Mother, "Groucho" in EarthBound Beginnings, and "Bonus Swoosh" in Mother 1 + 2.
- His description reads, "Is that a mustache beneath those eyes? You'll understand this enemy's reason for being if you pick GUARD in battle with him. He's actually a good guy who'll do something for you, the kind of thing that makes you think: "...whoa."".
