The Ghost Tower of Inverness is a 36-page adventure module for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st edition released in 1980. It is intended for players of levels 5 to 7.

Official synopsis[]

A shadow from the past, the Ghost Tower of Inverness has loomed ever larger in the mind of the great Seer of Urnst. Now he has convinced the Duke that an expedition should be organized to go to the ancient keep and recover its greatest treasure - the fabled Soul Gem. The module was originally written for the Official ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONSâ„¢ Game Tournament at Wintercon VIII, held in Detroit in November of 1979. It is the second in the Competition Series - adventures that were used in official tournaments. This adventure contains a challenging setting, a scouring system and characters specially prepared for the adventure. It may thus be used for competition among players (or groups of players), or as a non-scored adventure included in an ongoing campaign. Also included within are background information, referee's maps and notes, encounter descriptions for players, and a background scenario linked to THE WORLD OF GREYHAWKâ„¢ FANTASY WORLD SETTING.

John Baillie, Mike Carr, David Conant, David Cook, Helen Cook, Harold Johnson, Jeff Leason, Erol Otus, Lawrence Schick, and Jean Wells served as TSR's credited playtesters for the module.

The module was originally run as an AD&D tournament module at Wintercon VIII in November 1979. The printed C2 module thanked the Wintercon VIII DMs for their feedback.

Like Lost Tamoachan (1979) before it, a limited run Ghost Tower of Inverness was released at the convention as a limited-run module. 300 numbered copies were printed, plus 50 DM's copies, 25 staff copies, and 2 designers' copies. Both designers' copies were given to Allen Hammack; two were printed following a tradition set by Lost Tamoachan, which had two co-writers. Copies have since been sold to collectors for several thousand dollars.[1]

Release[]

The tournament module The Ghost Tower of Inverness was adapted into a full release in 1980 for $[missing data] US. This version had a red cover with full-color cover art, and received four printings.[1]

On January 22, 2013, it was re-released in digital format. It is currently available on DriveThruRPG and Dungeon Masters Guild for $4.99.
