Sir Leopold is a boss in Dragon Quest VIII and a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series.

Characteristics[]

Sir Leopold was an ill-tempered black dog from an unknown breed, possibly a doberman pincer mix. Though obedient of his master, Dominico, he would violently snap at anyone who came too close to his pen and was particularly spiteful towards his keeper, David.

A short time after the dog took the sceptre, Rhapthorne's transformed his vessel, making Sir Leopold's skin turn blue and his fur become mangy, with his paws swelling and his tail growing several times its original length and becoming rat-like. Furthermore, large hawk-like wings with red-tipped feathers also sprouted from his back, giving him the appearance of a bestial demon.

Trivia[]

  • In the original PS2 release, Dominico was much more cruel towards David, leading to an infamous scene where, under the pretense of him trying to poison Sir Leopold's food, Dominico ordered David to eat it to prove it had not been poisoned, greatly humiliating the youth in a dehumanizing manner. In the 3DS re-release, the scene was changed into a much more tame by comparison scolding for delivering said dog food late, possibly in order to make Dominico's subsequent change of heart and remorse towards his mistreatment of David more believable.
