The rune staff is a recurring weapon in the Dragon Quest series.

Dragon Quest III Remake[]
It has an attack bonus of +40 and only Mages, Priests, and Sages can equip it. It is found in the treasure room in Aliahan Castle, which requires the Magic key, and can be sold for 5,100 gold coins.
Dragon Quest VII[]
The staff increases Maribel and Sir Mervyn's attack by +39 and their style by +19. It is dropped by the Necromacer and Demon deacon monsters
Dragon Quest VIII[]
The rune staff has an attack bonus of +30 and sold for 3,150 Gold Coins. It can be acquired at the Pickham Casino for 3,000 tokens. It also appears in a treasure chest in the same town, but the Ultimate key is needed.
