Pulls down bolts from the sky for 50~70 damage, and is typically learned by bruiser types rather than casters.

Lightning is used by Demon thunderers in the remakes of IV, dealing 35~45 to all enemies.

It costs 0 MP to use, and is also used by Old men of the sea, Wyrtoises, and Bjorn in battle.
Dragon Quest VI[]
Lightning is learned by advancing to rank 3 of the Luminary vocation, but despite the name, the skill belongs to the Bang family of spells, much like the Lightning Slash. It costs 0 MP to use once again, and is also used by Crayzees, Hellstalkers, the Third Trial, Gallows giant, and Murdaw.
Dragon Quest VII[]
Acting the same as in VI, it is learned as an Hybrid ability of the Mage and Sailor vocations, as well as mastering the Serial quiller vocation. It costs 0 MP to use once again, and is also used by Demon thunderers, Natural born quillers, Monarchaeopteryxes, Beastly priests, and Orgodemir, as well as Hellstalkers once again. Lighting was nerfed in the 3DS version, with a new range of 30~50, and is learned by mastering the Sailor vocation.
Dragon Quest VIII[]
An enemy only skill, Lightning deals 28~36 damage and is used by Phantom swordsmen, as well as Demon thunderers and Hellstalkers once again. It is also used by Juggerwroth in the 3DS remake, dealing more damage during his boss fight.
Dragon Quest IX[]
Lightning grew weaker in IX, dealing only 17~26 damage, and is used by Cumulus rexes and the Master of Nu'un, in addition to Wyrtoises once again. In addition, 2 new skills surpassing Lightning make their debut in this game.
Dragon Quest X[]
Usable by players for the first time since VII, it is learned by investing 80 skill points into the Druid's Summon skill tree, and by investing 18 skill points into a recruited Great sabrecat's Hell Killer skill tree, and unlike in previous entires, it can cause paralysis to enemies regardless of user in addition to damage. It costs 18 MP for the former and 6 MP for the latter, and is used by Tormentaurs, Invisible swordsmen, Prime slimes, Cyber slimes, Zaptiles, Crimson glaives, Blondies, Captain dragos, Magical Demon Chamur, Brandon beast, Product N°12, Abyssal Soldier, Chiya Raijin, Byblos, and Malroth in battle.
Dragon Quest XI[]
Once again an enemy only skill, it is used by 24-carrot bunicorns, Hellbound hair-raisers, and Electric needlers, as well as Old Men of the Sea once again.
Dragon Quest Tact[]
Learned by Men o' war at level 20, Wyrtles at level 26, King slimes at level 44, and Cyber Slimes at level 28, it deals moderate Zap damage to all enemies in range and costs 26 MP to use. A scroll of this ability can also be obtained from the Swap Shops for 1500 DQV and DQII Medals each and by clearing Stage 7 of Mindini Hunter's Battle Road.
