Bright Hope Cove, also known as Scumport,[1] is an island town near one of Xadia's eastern coasts that acts as a trading hub for merchants, hunters, pirates, and thieves.[2] It was ruled by the Tidebound Elf mage Finnegrin until his death.[3]
History[]
Scumport is inhabited by a vast array of criminals and outcasts, who were known to trade shady goods for shadier prices. It was initially reserved for shady elven buccaneers, crooks, dealers, and outcasts. Humans of similar stripes eventually found their way to settle in Scumport as well after Azymondias returned to the Storm Spire.[2]
Finnegrin established himself as the unofficial ruler of Scumport at an unknown point and anyone who possesses one of his tokens will be marked as a friendly to him.[4] Finnegrin was eventually killed by his former bodyguard Elmer, and it is unknown who currently rules over Scumport after his death.[3]
Information[]
Scumport is an island town that is continuously rebuilt with flotsam and fishing nets scrapped together after being broken down by waves and storms more than a hundred times.[2]
Geography[]
Scumport is located in one of Xadia's eastern coasts. It is almost constantly shrouded in sea fog and clouds.[2] Its northern coast is dominated by rocks and is seldom visited.[5]
Notable Locations[]
Finnegrin's Tower[]
Finnegrin's tower is located in the center of Scumport, where Finnegrin and Elmer resided.[4] It is three times taller than all the other structures and sports a window that resembles an eye.[2] The door to Finnegrin's office is locked with three keys with a pattern that goes "squid, sails, a hammerhead's tail" from right to left. The office is also filled with the hermit crabs that Finnegrin kept as pets.[1]
Harbor[]
The harbor provides safe anchorage for ships and boats that are docked in Scumport.[2]
Leviathan's Bones[]
The Leviathan's Bones is a domed structure that houses Scumport's fighting pit where participants battle each other for prizes and glory. Its beams resemble wooden ribs and it sports balconies that serve as seats for important spectators.[4]
Marketplace[]
The marketplace is where merchants barter a variety of goods and valuables with their customers.[2]
