Windmane[1] is a character who appears in the 2008 Disney/Walden Media adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
Background[]
Windmane is a female centaur who is the wife of Glenstorm, being the mother of three sons. She initially lived in hiding at the woods along with her family, accusing Caspian for his actions against the Narnians. Despite this, she even aided Caspian and the Pevensies against the Telmarines. Like most female centaurs, Windmane is shown to be an excellent archer, although she prefers to use a sword like her husband.
Role in the film[]
Windmane is one of the surviving Narnians who took part in a riot with the survivors alongside her husband Glenstorm where she confronts Caspian, accusing him of Caspian's supposed crimes. After Caspian begins claiming that he volunteers to bring in peace, Windmane accepts in him being the king. Windmane was absent during the raid at Miraz's Castle, although her husband Glenstorm did participate during battle. The next day, Windmane stands outside Aslan's How, approaching the surviving Narnians, where she mourns that one of her children Rainstone was killed during the raid of Miraz's Castle, causing her to lose one of her sons.
Throughout the battle against the Telmarine army, Windmane, Glenstorm, and their surviving sons participated with the Narnians clashing throughout the battle, to which the battle was successful. Windmane and her husband were able to survive the battle, along with their two surviving sons. She is last seen attending the coronation of Prince Caspian where peace is brought between the Narnians and the Telmarines just before the Pevensies return back to Earth.
Trivia[]
- In the original source material, there was no mention of Glenstorm having a wife. Additionally, female centaurs were never mentioned in the original books.
- This can show that Windmane was made exclusive to this film and does not appear in the original book nor does she appear in C.S. Lewis' workshop.
- Windmane's name was not mentioned in the film and she was simply credited as "Glenstorm's wife". The character's name was revealed in a June 2008 issue of a Total Film magazine centering around the 2008 Disney/Walden Media adaptation of Prince Caspian.[1]
