The Prologue and the Promise was a 19' × 60' mural painted by artist Robert McCall (1919-2010) for the exit of the Horizons attraction at Epcot. It was one of several murals created by McCall for the attraction, in addition to views of Nova Cite, Brava Centuari, and Sea Castle.[1]
According to McCall's website:
It took almost three months to develop the concept for the mural at his studio in Paradise Valley, Arizona. The second phase, the painting phase, took more than six months to finish and was completed at the Disney Studios in Burbank, California.
The mural was completed in March of 1983 with the help of Robert’s wife Louise McCall.[2]
Following the closing of the attraction, plans were made to remove the mural and return it to California, but it never arrived. In his 2019 book Travels with Figment, Marty Sklar noted that the mural was still missing.[3]
