"Mary Poppins' Melody" is a deleted song from the film, Mary Poppins. It was to be performed when Mary Poppins introduces herself to the children. Elements of the song later became part of "Stay Awake". The melody was the basis for a couple of other songs that were ultimately cut from the film.
Lyrics[]
A name's a name, a chair's a chair,
A mirror is a mirror, a rug's a rug,
A floor's a floor, could anything be clearer?
A tree's a tree, as you can see,
A nightie is a nightie.
And you're a Michael, you're a Jane
And I'm a Mary Poppins
A hat's a hat, for this or that,
Depending on who wears it.
A room's a room for joy or glum,
Depending on who shares it.
For everyone there is a name,
For every name a someone,
And Michael's he and Jane is she,
And of all the ones that one might be.
I'd rather be no one but me,
Because I'm Mary Poppins.
Now let's try it once again.
You're a... (Michael!)
you're a... (Jane!)
And I'm a Mary Poppins. (Mary Poppins!)
A name's a name, a chair's a chair,
A mirror is a mirror, a rug's a rug,
A floor's a floor, could anything be clearer?
And what's a bed without a spread,
A lamp and comfy pillow?
And you're a Michael, you're a Jane,
And I am still unpacking.
A hat like that is tall or flat,
Depending on who wears it.
A room's a room for joy or glum,
Depending on who shares it.
For everyone there is a name,
For every name a someone,
Michael's he and Jane is she,
And of all the ones that one might be.
I'd rather be no one but me,
Because I'm practically perfect.
Now let's try it once again.
You're a Michael, you're a Jane.
And I am still unpacking.
(Instrumental break)
A hat like that is tall or flat,
Depending on who wears it.
A room's a room for joy or glum,
Depending on who shares it.
For everyone there is a name,
For every name a someone,
Michael's he and Jane is she,
And of all the ones that one might be.
I'd rather be no one but me,
Because I'm Mary Poppins.
