King Skylar

"King Skylar" is the sixty-second episode of the Disney Channel animated series Elena of Avalor. It premiered on October 24, 2019 and is the thirteenth episode in the third season.

Plot[]

Elena, Skylar, Ciela, Avion, and Nico are flying back to Avalor Palace from a Royal Summit. Suddenly, Luna flies up and tells Skylar that King Verago wants Skylar to return to Vallestrella right now. Nico notes that Skylar's in trouble. Elena replies that they don't know that but Skylar notes he might be since it's an order. Skylar is about to go drop Elena off at the Palace but Luna reminds him that "Now means now." Nico decides to come so he can see his brother get in trouble. The group sets off for Vallestrella.

They arrive in Vallestrella to find King Verago ill. Verago informs Skylar that he will be Interim King of Vallestrella until he recovers. Everyone but Elena is most displeased about this decision. Verago reminds the other Jaquins that Skylar is his eldest son and as such will be their King one day. Elena is confident that Skylar will do a great job. However, Skylar doesn't feel up to taking charge. The other Jaquins take advantage of this to make him make choices that they want him to make. One of these is letting them play at Agua Dulce Pond, which is off-limits. They disturb the cranky Butterfrog, who turns them into other animals with the magic in the Pond as punishment for disturbing him. When Tornado shows up, she points out Skylar's mistakes and they take off to find the other Jaquins.

They arrive at the Pond and discover what happened. When Verago arrives, his cold makes him fall victim to the magic too. They discover that the magic is from a root from Grooto Metamo. Troyo reveals how to break the curse. Elena and Skylar turn everyone but Troyo back to normal. Verago's cold has been made worse so Skylar is still in charge until he's better.

• Skylar's cousin, Eddie, could be a reference to Ed in The Lion King.
• Skylar is appointed as acting King of the Jaquins until his father recovers.
• Troyo gets turned into a snurdle. 
• Moral: Being a good leader is making the right decisions, not the most popular decisions.
