Ian David McShane is an English actor, producer, and director, who is best known for his television roles, most notably the titular role in the BBC1 British mystery drama series Lovejoy. He is also well-known for voicing Captain Hook and Tai Lung in DreamWorks' Shrek the Third and Kung Fu Panda (respectively), Iofur Raknison in the 2007 fantasy adventure film The Golden Compass, and Sergei Bobinsky in the 2009 stop-motion dark fantasy horror film Coraline. Additionally, he portrayed Al Swearengen in the HBO Western series Deadwood (2004–2006) and its 2019 film continuation (with the original series garnering him both Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominations). He most recently played Mr. Wednesday in the Starz fantasy drama series American Gods.
For Disney, he narrated the 2010 film The Sorcerer's Apprentice. He also portrayed Blackbeard in the 2011 fantasy adventure film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
