Kiff Chatterley is the titular protagonist of the Disney Channel series with the same name. She is an adventurous squirrel who gets her best friend, Barry Buns, to join in with her expeditions and adventures to help the animals throughout the mountains. Kiff is the only child of Martin & Beryl Chatterley.

Background[]

Personality[]

As the press releases states, Kiff is "an optimistic squirrel whose best intentions often lead to complete chaos".

Kiff is a generally cheerful and optimistic squirrel whose ambitious nature leads her into many adventures, during which she often tries to spread positivity and help people to the best of her abilities. She is a highly determined individual, a trait which typically manifests itself in her adventures, sometimes to a fault; her determination can occasionally lead her into unnecessarily complicated situations. Kiff also has a great deal of love for her family and friends, and is willing to stick up for them at all costs.

Nonetheless, Kiff can also be highly cunning if the situation calls for it. While generally respectful of authority figures and rules, Kiff is not above defying them should they get in the way of her personal principles or goals, or even her curiosity. In particularly hectic situations, she has been known to resort to what she calls "squirrel attacks", which typically involve her aggressively leaping onto others.

Kiff is an avid learner and is known around her school as a star student. As shown in "Soup Opera", she even enjoys doing homework, to the point of feeling empty when she is not assigned any. In "Kiff Is Good at Sports", Kiff proves to be an amazing discus thrower and leads her school to their first ever track meet victories, though she ultimately leaves the track and field team to focus on her academics instead.

Furthermore, she has a strong sense of civic pride; in "Career Day", she is the only student interested in taking a summer job at Table Town City Hall, and in "Totally Table Town", she produces an elaborate music video about Table Town to prove the town's greatness to an anonymous Internet user (who turns out to be her own father).

Kiff has also been shown to have a proclivity for the arts. In "The Sound of Helen", Kiff reveals her love of musicals, and she leads her class in their production of their original musical My Fair Helen. It is indicated in "You Can't Handle The Tooth" that she apparently comes up with the lyrics for the various songs she sings throughout the series on the spot. In "Blooper Quest", Kiff demonstrates her talent for filmmaking by co-writing and directing the film Found in Ambiguity, which goes on to be a major success.

Among other hobbies, Kiff is an avid collector and maintains a dedicated "collectorium" in her bedroom, as shown in "The Five Pigeons of the Acapellapocalypse". She is also a huge fan of action movie star Chubbles Wubbington.

The episode "Nicknames" reveals that "Kiff" is actually a nickname given to Kiff in her infancy by her parents, who derived the nickname from the sound of her "little toots". Kiff's actual given name has yet to be revealed, though Kiff apparently dislikes it and much prefers her nickname.

Physical appearance[]

Kiff is a squirrel with orange fur, a pale yellow underbelly, and a bushy tail lined with a reddish brown stripe. She has a round head and large, round eyes with small pupils, and two eyelashes on each eye. Her nose is brown and oval-shaped. Notably, a small chunk is missing from her right ear; the source of this deformity is currently unknown, and she has only acknowledged it once, in "Lost and Found". In "Be Still My Harp", her ear appears intact in a flashback to two years earlier when she was in 5th Grade.

Relationships[]

Barry Buns[]

Kiff and Barry are best friends, and not only are they best friends, they're neighbours as well. They often go on adventures in Table Town ever since they first met at the playground 7 years ago when they used to be in Kindergarten. The two are often in each other's company, and they frequently go on adventures together around Table Town. As best friends, they care deeply for each other and are highly supportive of each other. Kiff is always ready to lend Barry a helping hand, especially when he finds himself overwhelmed by fear or uncertainty in their adventures; likewise, Barry is constantly willing to go along with Kiff's various plans and ideas, as farfetched as they may sometimes be.

Kiff and Barry call themselves "identicals tentacles" and are very proud of the equal balance of their friendship. Kiff is willing to go to great lengths to preserve this equality, as shown in "Friendiversary". Their closeness is such that they even consider each other honorary family; in "The Fourth Bath", Barry declares Kiff an honorary member of the Buns family, and in "Fresh Outta Grandmas", Kiff says that she and Barry are "basically family".

Beryl and Martin Chatterley[]

Kiff loves and looks up to both of her parents, and they in turn love Kiff and her adventurous spirit. As such, Beryl and Martin generally tolerate the antics their daughter often gets into.

In "No Dad Ideas", Kiff sets up a staged meeting between Martin and an investor (who is actually Terri Buns) to boost Martin's confidence after he fumbles a product pitch. Kiff is shown to be one of the few people who believes in Martin's product ideas.

Trevor Angstrom[]

Trevor is first seen interacting with Kiff in "Big Barry on Campus", where he offers to be Kiff's best friend when Barry is sent to high school. Kiff declines but lets Trevor sit with her in the cafeteria, despite being disgusted by his eating habits.

In "Kiff's Mix", Kiff and Barry have fun hanging out with Trevor at his house, not minding that Trevor lied about having a brand new TV to convince the two to visit. Later, he double crosses Kiff by attempting to mass produce the Kiff's Mix cereal against her wishes, though he ultimately apologizes for his betrayal. In "Friendiversary", Trevor unsuccessfully tries to take Kiff's place as Barry's best friend.

Later episodes find Trevor on better terms with Kiff and Barry. In "Trevor's Rockin' Halloween Bash", Kiff and Barry are the only two people to initially attend Trevor's Halloween party, and Trevor later helps the two re-imprison Scarm Scarmely. In "Kiff and Barry Go To Prom", the three crash the Table Town High School prom together.

Candle Fox[]

Kiff and Candle's first major interaction occurs in "Two Truths and a Bunny", where Candle invites Kiff and Barry to a sleepover at her mansion. Barry is confused by Kiff's desire to attend because he assumes that Kiff and Candle are "adversaries", which prompts Kiff to admit that she is mostly interested in learning the meaning behind the name of Candle's clique "The Abras".

In subsequent episodes, Kiff and Candle are shown to have a much friendlier relationship. In "Friendship In The Time Of Cheese Caves", Kiff helps Candle repair her friendship with Trevor. Candle, for her part, has willingly participated in several of Kiff's plans, such as in "Weekly Grocery Shop" and "Snow More Ketchup".

Helen[]

Kiff often finds herself at odds with her drama teacher Helen. Helen's selfish nature has led her to play an antagonistic role in several of Kiff's adventures, such as in "Hat", "Mall Leader", and "Personal Assistant".

Nevertheless, Helen has at times provided magical assistance to Kiff, such as in "Pool Party", "The Five Pigeons of the Acapellapocalypse", and "Principal Dance Socks". Despite their differences, Kiff is still willing to maintain a friendly relationship with Helen. In "Pool Party", Kiff prevents Helen from embarrassing herself on television, which Helen appreciates. In "The Sound of Helen", Kiff admires Helen's determination to achieve her musical theater dreams, which inspires Kiff to come up with the idea for the musical My Fair Helen.

Miss Deer Teacher[]

Being an enthusiastic learner, Kiff is one of Miss Deer Teacher's best and brightest students and often actively participates in her classes. In "Faculty Lounge", Kiff mentions that she frequently gives Miss Deer Teacher apples as tokens of appreciation. The two have occasionally helped each other outside of class, most notably in "Soup Opera", where Kiff gives Miss Deer Teacher successful dating advice, where Kiff gives Miss Deer Teacher dating advice inspired by the soap opera Smoldering Cove.

Principal Secretary[]

Principal Secretary recognizes Kiff's trustworthiness and appreciation for learning. At times, Kiff has been entrusted with special requests from him; in "Brunch DJ", he assigns her and Barry to investigate Harry's whereabouts, while in "Kiff Is Good at Sports", he convinces her to join the track and field team and embrace her talent for discus.

In turn, Principal Secretary accepts Kiff's request for him to represent Table Town Middle School in a dance-off against the rival school Tuft Pierre in "Principal Dance Socks". Later, while coming clean to the audience of Dancing on the Tables about Table Town Middle School cheating in the dance-off using magical socks, Kiff admits that Principal Secretary cannot dance, but nonetheless commends his dedication as a principal.

Ghost Wolf[]

When Kiff and her friends get lost on a mountain in "Totally Table Town", Ghost Wolf shepherds them to safety. In "Ghost Wolf's Art", Kiff visits Ghost Wolf to thank him for his assistance and later encourages him to show the world his paintings, planning an art show on his behalf.

Trivia[]

  • Kiff is an only child.
  • In the original pilot, Kiff was originally to be called Donk.
  • Lucy Heavens and Nic Smal, the co-creators of the series, stated that "Kiff" is a slang word for "cool" in South Africa, which is why she had been named such.
    • In "Nicknames", it is revealed that her "name" is actually her nickname which according to her mother came about due to how her farts sounded like when she was a baby. She learns her real name, but it is not shown.
  • Kimiko Glenn uses her "Horse" voice from the Netflix animated show Centaurworld when voicing Kiff.
  • Her personality is similar to Cricket Green from another Disney animated series Big City Greens, due to that both are optimistic and sometimes reckless children who go on misadventures in their hometowns.
  • During conception/pre-production for the series, she was originally going to be named "Donk", and she was much smaller in design. Her personality was also originally slightly more childlike (as she was originally gonna be an Elementary School student instead of a 7th Grader) in comparison to her mildly more mature personality in the finished product.[1][2]
  • During development for the series, her left ear was originally going to have two missing chunks instead of just one missing chunk.
  • Kiff is the only character to appear in every episode.
