The Corpse Family is a family of zombies that live in Halloween Town and one of the supporting characters of the 1993 stop-motion Disney film, The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Background[]
They are seen through various intervals, and are seen as being very close to Jack Skellington. The names of the three were revealed in the trading cards released based on the film. The Corpse Kid is named Ethan, the Corpse Dad is named Ned and the Corpse Mom is named Bertha.
Role in the film[]
The Corpse Child is first seen singing the musical number "This is Halloween" where he sings with the Winged Demon just before the Corpse Dad and Corpse Mom pass through singing. They later gather around when Jack Skellington rises from the fountain where they and the other citizens celebrate Halloween altogether. Later after Jack returns from Christmas Town, the Corpse Mom and her son are seen witnessing Jack's return to Halloween Town as Jack plans for a town meeting. Later, the Corpse Mom and Corpse Child became aware of Jack's plan to take over Christmas, which the Corpse Family started helping Jack take over Christmas. Throughout the "Making Christmas" sequence, the Corpse Dad is seen attempting to get a large snake ready for Jack's plan to invade Christmas, only for the snake to swallow him, though he manages to free himself.
As Jack plans to take over Christmas, Sally plans to add in fog juice for the fountain to emit artificial fog to prevent Jack from escaping; however, the Corpse Child sadly reacts, fearing that Jack's plan is ruined. However, after Jack was shot down by military units in the real world, the Corpse Family and the other citizens became aware of Jack, fearing that the King of Halloween is destroyed. However, after Jack returns safe having defeated Oogie Boogie and then rescued Santa Claus, the Corpse Dad wakes up and feels happy that Jack has returned, followed by the Corpse Mom and the Corpse Child happy to see him back, along with various other citizens of Halloween Town.
Trivia[]
- The Corpse Kid appears to idolize Jack Skellington since he is seen hugging his leg after he and the other Halloween find out Jack survived. In the novelization, that proves to be true because it says that he wants to be like Jack when he grows up.
