"Chapter Nine: No Magic at the Dinner Table!" is the ninth episode of the Disney+ series The Santa Clauses and aired November 15, 2023. It was written by Camille Patrao and Eugene Garcia-Cross and directed by Katie Locke O'Brien.
Synopsis[]
Magnus Antas, the Mad Santa, drags another Legendary Figure into his plot against the North Pole.
Plot[]
Magnus continues to plot his way into taking over the North Pole, but three months have passed and his magic has not returned proper, much to Olga's annoyance and consternation. After conversing with a Santopolis employee, they try to get a rideshare, but are unable to, until they realize that it is nearly Easter. Olga kidnaps the Easter Bunny, who was once close friends with Magnus, to try and force him to get them back to the North Pole, but he escapes.
Scott continues to train Cal, but he is clearly ill-equipped for the job of being the next Santa. Meanwhile, La Befana continues to train Sandra into being a witch. She shows an interest in transfiguration, but Befana tells her that that is too difficult and dangerous a task. Carol starts growing concerned and jealous when Sandra is shown spending more time with Befana and is further incensed when Scott compares Befana to being a "cool aunt". Scott decides to invite Befana to dinner, but he bails at the last minute, leaving Carol to spend an awkward evening with her. Sandra deduces that Carol is jealous and leaves in a huff. Befana tells Carol that Sandra needs her mother and that she is not looking to replace her.
Cal continues to feel that he is not ready to be Santa. At Carol's suggestion, Scott decides to take Cal out for "drinks", but not before getting an ominous, yet childish, letter from Magnus and Olga. During his time with Cal, Scott admits that he is proud of him and that he loves him. Cal is glad to know that his father still cares about him, but becomes sad when Riley does not respond to him. While talking with Sandra, the Easter Bunny suddenly arrives to warn the Calvins about Magnus, but due to the siblings arguing, Sandra accidentally turns the Easter Bunny into a regular bunny. Befana is shocked that Sandra was able to do such a thing with such limited training and suggests staying off for a while, angering her.
Cal and Sandra decide to take the sleigh out to go see Riley, but upon arriving in the middle of the night, Cal learns that he missed Riley's birthday by two days. Riley is frustrated with Cal's inability to see her on a regular basis and breaks up with him. Cal angrily tosses his Santa trainee vest away and orders that Riley fly them home. Magnus and Olga sense the children's presence and find the vest which Magnus dons, regaining his powers. Scott senses something is wrong up at the North Pole.
