Bambi is an upcoming American photorealistic computer-animated remake of the 1942 traditionally animated feature of the same name, which itself is based on the of the book Bambi: A Life in the Woods by Felix Salten. The film was announced on January 24, 2020, but no release date has been confirmed.[1]
Development[]
On January 24, 2020, it was announced that Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer will write the screenplay, while Chris Weitz, Paul Weitz, and Andrew Miano will produce the film. The film is reported to be seen by Disney as "a type of companion piece" to the live-action/CGI remake of The Jungle Book and the CGI remake of The Lion King.[1]
On May 10, 2022, Deadline reported that Lindsey Beer had finished writing the script for the film.[2]
According to Newsweek, the film will not include the death of Bambi's mother due to the trauma it brought children. [3]
On March 6, 2024, it was announced that Sarah Polley was no longer attached to direct. This combined with Sean Bailey leaving Disney, and Bob Iger announcing the cancellation of several projects makes it unclear if the film was still being developed.[4]
