Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical is a musical adaptation of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, performed by the Children's Theatre Company. It began in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on April 12th 2016 and ended performances there on June 12th 2016. It is unknown whether or not the musical was ever performed anywhere else and rumors that it was going to appear on Broadway amounted to nothing. Despite being hyped in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid community, very little was known about the musical for a long time, with neither a screenplay nor a full list of songs having surfaced until 2020.

In March 2020, it was announced that the musical would finally be put on once again by the Children's Theatre Company from April 27th, 2021 to June 20th, 2021 and in March 2022, it was announced that it would be put on again from April 22 to June 18, 2022.

On December 15th, 2023, a studio cast recording was released^[1], though with a few missing songs.

The Musical became available for licensing in January of 2024^[2], and it is set to return from April 6th - May 5th 2024^[3].

Trivia[]

• The musical lasted for 135 minutes (2 hours, 15 minutes) and combined elements from the first two books.
• Over 50 different scenes were in the musical, including moments featuring Creighton the Cretin, the Cheese Touch and Fregley's booger.
• Patty Farrell takes the place of Marty Porter and runs for Treasurer in this adaptation.
  • Ricky Fisher also takes the place of Abe Hall and moves to California after getting the cheese touch.
    • An original character named Clarissa Rice also seems to takes the place of Darren Walsh in one recording from 2022, but not on the Studio Cast recording.
• Mr. Ira is changed to female in this adaptation and is referred to as Mrs. Ira instead.
• The stage was designed to slant to the left to create "a feeling of off-balance".
• The musical cost more than $1,000,000 to make.
• 20th Century Fox played a major role in the creation of the musical via "Fox Stage Productions," which explains the amount of plot points it shares with the movies.
• The characters of Yvette and Pauline seem to have been created specifically for the musical. Based on their song appearances, they seem to play the role of Patty's friends.
