The Triarch of Maltus were a group of revered mythological gods deeply ingrained in Maltusian culture.
History
Eons ago, Archor, Quarra, and Tzodar were benevolent leaders on Maltus. After their death, the legends of the Triarch were greatly exaggerated, generation after generation. The tales said that they were gods who rebelled against their father, Lord Daalon, and slain him. Ashamed by their sins, the Triarch vanished from Maltus, vowing to return in the future and reshape the universe. Presently, Maltusians still believe in that legend and await their coming.[1]
Eons later, the Controller Daalon traveled to Maltus, seeking to restore order in the universe through technology. A spiritual journey taught him about the "Holy Triarch," which inspired him to give life to their legend. He created three artificial beings and programmed them to believe that they were the Triarch. He wanted to use them to restore the universe, cleansed from evil. However, the Triarch repeated their history by rebelling and attacking their father, then vanishing. Still, Daalon didn't die, for he crawled into a life-sustaining matrix, where he slept for millennia.[1]
Even further into the present, the apparent "Holy Triarch" returned to Maltus, intent on remaking the planet and, through it, the universe. The devastation caused by the three giants drew the attention of the Guardians of the Universe and the Controllers, who sent their armies, the Green Lantern Corps and Darkstars, along with the L.E.G.I.O.N. The three groups joined forces to fight against the Triarch and save Maltus, but their power was not enough against the Triarch.

Trying to turn the stakes, Vril Dox found and awoke Lord Daalon. However, this only worsened the situation because Daalon reunited with his children and infused them with more power. The battle ended with a combined effort from the three armies, the Guardians, and the Controllers, who convinced the Triarch that they were not gods and were only causing death and devastation. Ashamed by their sins, the Triarch rebelled against their father once again and, sacrificing themselves, used their power to restore Maltus and make it a paradise.[2]
