Synopsis for "Futures End - Chapter 12"

Having crashed their ship on an uncharted planet in the Huron System, Hawkman, Amethyst, and Frankenstein find themselves under attack by an army of robots. Frankenstein attempts diplomacy, but he receives a chilly reception and the warning that all life forms must be eradicated. The trio are successful, but during the battle, Frankenstein's face is cut, and he is disturbed to see that he is bleeding human blood. Before they can consider that, more robots appear on the horizon, led by Hawkman's missing comrade from Stormwatch, Engineer. She has been corrupted, though, and she attacks them all.

In Baltimore, King Faraday pays a visit to a woman called Mercy, hoping to recruit her to join him on Cadmus Island. She is reluctant, distrusting him. She learns that he has been spying on her, and allowed her to continue using her powers to do bad things, so long as they served his purposes. She correctly guesses that he is both afraid of metahumans and jealous that he doesn't have any. That is why he wants to cure people of their abilities. He warns that she can't simply send him away. She and her friends are all marked women. She assumes he has brought Deathstroke to ensure that she complies with him. He responds that the assassin's presence is merely precautionary. He has Slade fire a warning shot that grazes her slightly, and she angrily throws him out of her apartment. She receives a call soon after he leaves from Voodoo, who warns that her location has been compromised. They will have to meet up with the twins at the usual safehouse.

Meanwhile, in Camden, New Jersey, Voodoo explains that her black ops have gone wrong to Justin, there erstwhile aid to Cole Cash. He suspects that there is a connection between the Faraday she speaks of and Cole's having gone missing. Ignoring him, she tries to contact one of her friends, and ends up put on hold while her friend takes down some men attacking her.

In Metropolis, Ethan Boyer promises that with the equipment that he and Rampage stole, he can get her back to normal. The pair had met years earlier when she was working for LexCorp, and he was working - fraudulently - for S.T.A.R. Labs. In the interim, she was caught in an experiment gone wrong that Lex Luthor could do nothing to rectify, so she sought Ethan out. She broke him out of prison, which he had been put in for experimenting on Earth 2 attackers, to his dismay. He straps her under his equipment, and activates his devices, revealing too late that it will only serve to make her even more berserk. Casually, he begins walking home as the lab explodes with Rampage inside.

Thirty years later, at Arkham Asylum, Brother Eye force-feeds the Joker. Despite Brother Eye's complete eradication of the human race, it had kept the Joker alive for a reason - and the time for that plan's action has come. Thinking that death is finally on the way, he is escorted by Frankenstein to another chamber within the asylum, where he is surprised to find Batman being kept alive, after all this time. When Bruce sees him, the Joker begins to laugh uncontrollably.
