Synopsis for "Aftermath"
An injured Superman has been taken to Supercorp to receive medical attention after being infected with Kryptonite after his battle with the Chained. He's been left comatose and Lois keeps him company and reads letters from his fans to him. She is devastated and almost breaks down in tears, but still puts up a brave face for him.
Down on the streets of Metropolis, Perry has put mayoral election campaign on hold in favour of running a charity program to help the victims of the city's destruction. Perry describes it as his way of honouring Superman for his years of service to the city. At Stryker's Island, Lex receives a visit from his mother, who informs him that his daughter, Lena, has gotten a job over at Supercorp. Lex doesn't want Lena to be anywhere near Metropolis, but Leticia tells him that there's nothing he can do about it from prison.
At Supercorp, Lena oversees the incarceration of the Chained, a process that reutilizes the same technology used by Lex to imprison him the first time. It is a temporary solution, however, as Stryker's Island is preparing a new cell for the Chained. LL-01, the hologram created by Lex, offers his assistance to Lena in anything she requests and Lena accepts with a smirk.
Lois gets a call from Jimmy, who tells that the Daily Planet staff is in disarray ever since she left the office to keep Superman company. Refusing to leave her husband's side, Lois puts Jimmy in charge of the Daily Planet, a decision that earns a humorous response from Superman, who has barely awakened from his coma. His happy reunion with Lois is short-lived, however, as Mercy informs Superman that his recovery process is advancing very slowly. Due to that huge amount of Kryptonite he was exposed to, he can't risk exposing himself to Kryptonite again. She is also aware that Superman and Clark Kent are the same person.
As much as she hates to admit it, Lois agrees with Mercy and believes that Superman should take more time to heal it, but Superman insists on going back into the field. During his fight with the Chained, Superman became aware that Lex had wronged more people, like Marilyn Moonlight, so he wants to find her before Pharm and Graft do. To do that, he wants to use one of Lex's old Warsuits, with his own modifications, of course.
While jumping on the city's rooftops, Marilyn is intercepted by Graft, who invites her to join his vendetta against Lex. Marilyn, however, is aware that Graft is a liar and even makes a hurtful comment about his mother, which invites an angry reaction from Graft. Superman, wearing a modified version of Lex's suit, arrives at the scene, ready to detain Graft, who says that he came prepared for a fight, as well. He transforms his wheelchair into a mechanized suit of armour and attacks Superman and Marilyn.
Lex, who Superman has re-established communications with, tells him to use the suit's EMP function and shut down Graft's suit, but Superman replies that he disabled that. His suit only protects Superman instead of harming others, a decision that disappoints Lex. After a short fight, Superman tears Graft's suit apart but Graft uses his Kryptonite gauntlet to destabilize Marilyn's powers, releasing a white explosion that envelops her and Superman. Once the light dissipates, Superman and Marilyn are nowhere to be seen and Graft believes they could be anywhere.
In the 19th Century, an old woman hires gunslinging vigilantes Nighthawk and Cinnamon to protect her and her two sons from the bandits that are hounding them. She claims that the boys are inventors who will turn Metropolis into the city of tomorrow. Suddenly, one of the boys spots a man in a red poncho chasing the train on a horse. He climbs onto the train's rooftop and Nighthawk and Cinnamon intercept him. They draw their weapons but their guns mysteriously glow red hot and they drop them. The stranger is revealed to be Superman who tells them that he has come to rob the train.
