"The Secret That Time Forgot To Tell": A husband-and-wife team of Kryptonian criminals come to Earth and convince Superboy that he is their real son.

Quote1 Guess my "phantom self" is intangible and undetectable. That clears up another part of the puzzle... Nothing in our universe can exist in two-- or more-- places at the same time! It would be impossible for me to meet myself! That means whenever I travel to a time-- future or past-- when I'm alive, I'll be a phantom! Quote2

Notes

  • Although Superboy says that he will manifest always as a phantom when he attempts to travel to another time when he is already alive, making it impossible for him to meet himself, an exception was established to this rule in DC Comics Presents #14, where Pete Ross pulls Superboy into the time of his adulthood as Superman at the time time as they undergo a mind-switch. Although Pete's and Superboy's minds are returned to their real bodies by the end of the crisis, this unusual situation does permit for Superboy and Superman to briefly exchange words and shake hands before Superboy returns to his own era.
