The Mudville Maroons were an NFL team.
History
The Maroons made it to the Super Bowl for the first time, facing the Bay City Goldminers who were after their record-breaking fifth win. Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner both attended the game, and rooted for opposing side with Hal choosing the Miners and Guy the underdog. Though the Miners scored first, the Maroons countered and took a surprise lead. The game turned violent when the demon Sapolu sent his forces to interfere with the game - having them possess one of the Maroons, the umpire and Guy's date. Sapolu had hoped the excitement of a record breaking win would be enough to free him into that dimension. While it was close, the Miners equalized with a last second touchdown. The excitement was enough to free the demon, who wrecked the stadium and was ultimately stopped by the two heroes. However, as the Miners had not been able to score their conversion and the stadium was destroyed, the game was declared a tie.

Trivia
- The Maroons seem to be based on the Cleveland Browns. "Mudville" is from the baseball poem Casey at the Bat and has since been used as a mocking nickname for cities with teams that never win trophies, like Cleveland between 1964 and 2016.
