Metal Men (Volume 2) #1 is an issue of the series Metal Men (Volume 2) with a cover date of October, 1993.

Synopsis for "Thanks for the Memories"

As an impending meteor strike grips the world's attention, Henry Casper visits Dr. Will Magnus at Magnus Robotics to have the Metal Men intervene. Magnus refuses, fearing that they will be destroyed forever and the robots wonder what he means: in the past, when they were destroyed in battle, Magnus would simply rebuild them. Mercury is particularly upset at being denied answers and after Gold pleads with him to explain, Magnus sends them out to investigate the meteor and sidestep their questions.

No sooner does it land than a group of small spherical robots fly away with it, past military guards and the Metal Men. Tin spots them and Iron forms a cannon to shoot Mercury at the thieves. Gold knocks away the drones and Lead scoops up the rock to shield any humans from radiation. Mercury spots someone following them and wants to interrogate him but Platinum insists they return and complete their mission.

The meteor is a strange alien metal that Doc speculates he can turn into a robot which leads to further questioning about his secret Level 12 lab. As the Metal Men grill him, Peter Tonegawa arrives: he wants to license the Metal Men's design for his company Bundai International. Magnus explains that they are unique and their Responsometers are one-of-a-kind. When he refuses, Tonegawa sends drones to attack them and steal the technology—the same small bots who attempted to take the meteor. They are followed by the mammoth M2 robot who destroys the lab.

In the chaos, the fighting descends to Level 12, in spite of Magnus' warnings and attempts to steer them clear. When they arrive, they find several humans lying in vegetative states on a table just before a support beam gives out and crushes them. Suddenly, a flood of hazy memories comes back to the Metal Men and Magnus declares that he has killed them all again.
