Manticore is a genetically-modified, animalistic warrior who has been a member of the Leviathan Organization, the Burning World, and the Elite Basij.
History
Manticore gained his physical and mystical abilities through a military experiment in genetic engineering by the United States Government. He developed a camaraderie with one-time Suicide Squad field leader Rustam,[1] and entered the service of the terrorist Leviathan Organization, on whose behalf he fought Spidra of Batman Incorporated,[2] and was eventually incarcerated in the high-security vault of Blackgate Penitentiary in Gotham City, growing enraged in his long imprisonment.[1]
When Rustam turned against his former superior Amanda Waller, Manticore was among the former allies he freed to form the Burning World, an organization seeking to create a better world through the liberation of prisoners and elimination of corruption. When the current Suicide Squad was sent to intercede in the breakout, Manticore dispatched the Squad's Killer Croc before leaving with his teammates after learning of Amanda Waller's supposed death.[1] He joined the Burning World in a massacre of corrupt politicians in Washington, D.C. before fleeing to Rustam's base in the nation of Qurac to escape reprisal. There, they were confronted by the Suicide Squad and, to their surprise, Amanda Waller.[3] Manticore was defeated in a rematch against Croc, and taken into custody by Waller with the rest of the Burning World.[4]
Manticore later resurfaced as a member of the Elite Basij, a team of metahumans based in and answering to the government of Iran.[5] When his team backed Black Adam of Kahndaq in branding the American superhero Superman a war criminal, Manticore joined a brawl between the metahumans of many nations in D.C. over his custody.[6]
