Synopsis for "Lord of Fire"

In Siberia, Major Zastrow learns that a clone of Firestorm codenamed Svarozhich has turned violent and escaped the Soviet facility in which it was created.

At Vandermeer University in Pittsburgh Ron Raymond shows the amnesiac Martin Stein his office, and Simon LaGrieve discusses his departure from the staff of the Suicide Squad for Vandermeer's Institute for Metahuman Studies with its dean, Emily Rice. Meeting with the IMHS's Doctor Clement Morrison LaGrieve proposes that their patient Louise Lincoln's adoption of the Killer Frost person may be the result of a virus contracted from the original Frost. On campus, Raymond spots and calls out to his ex-girlfriend Doreen Day, who flees in the false belief that he will kill her for revealing his identity as Firestorm.

Back in the USSR, Mikhail Arkadin's wife and children move in with her conservative family to his distress, feeling that his marriage is failing. At the same time, Svarozhich comes to Moscow, where he extinguishes the flames of a burning building and resurrects an old woman dead of smoke inhalation. With the people of Moscow hailing him as a gog, Svarozhich flies off. The next day, however, Mikhail Arkadin's psychic niece Serafina is summoned to the woman's home and finds that she is unresponsive and soulless.

Contacting her superhero team Soyuz, she meets her uncle and forcibly transforms him into Firestorm. Despite his unwillingness to form due to collateral civilian deaths he caused after losing control during the Alien Alliance's invasion and gene bombing, Serafina Arkadin convinces Firestorm to take action against Svarozhich, who she found to be likewise soulless and in possession of power akin to that of Firestorm. Resolving to speak to his enemy first, Firestorm is attacked by Svarozhich, who absorbs his power and soul, splitting apart Raymond and Arkadin.
