Wizard is a name used by several unrelated characters from the DC Universe.
The Wizard, also known as Shazam, is the guardian of the Rock of Eternity who bestows the powers of various gods onto his champion. In the Pre-Flashpoint Multiverse, the Wizard was Jebediah of Canaan; a young boy chosen by six forgotten Gods of Caanan to become their chosen champion. Later, he would choose other to carry over his legacy, such as Billy Batson, aka the hero Captain Marvel (later Shazam). In the New 52, the Wizard is known as Mamaragan, a thunder god of the Dreamtime who rose to prominence as the creator of the Living Lightning and led the Council of Eternity. His name was inspired by the Australian ancestral being of the same name.
Another character known as Wizard is William Zard, an evil Golden Age super-villain with magical powers. Formerly a professional gunman, he studied in Tibet to become a criminal magician. His greatest nemeses are the Justice Society of America. He has been a member of the Crime Champions, the Injustice Society, Injustice Unlimited and the Secret Society of Super-Villains.
The Wizard Shazam was created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck, first appearing in the Fawcett Comics publication Whiz Comics #2 (1940). William Zard was created by Gardner Fox and Irwin Hasen, first appearing in All-Star Comics #34 (1947).
