Captain Marvel, Jr. #31 is an issue of the series Captain Marvel, Jr. (Volume 1) with a cover date of July, 1945.

Synopsis for Capt. Marvel, Jr.: "Capt. Marvel, Jr. and the Robombs of the Rising Sun!"

Freddy Freeman reads about Japanese “Robombs” attacking Allied forces in the Philippines and nobody can really tell where they’re coming from, so he calls CAPTAIN MARVEL to become Captain Marvel, Jr. and flies for the American HQ in the Philippines. Therein, Gen. Shelby is attacked by a Robomb, which is some form of unmanned bombing drone. The best they can figure is that they’re attacking from somewhere else in the Philippines, but they have yet to find anything. The World’s Mightiest Boy soon arrives and is told that the Robomb Base is probably north of them before he flies out and intercepts one himself, cracking his head through it. Heading down into the water, he soon finds that it’s a submerged island where the Imperial Japanese Navy are using diving suits to launch unmanned bombing drones, led by Junior’s old enemy, Captain Nippon, who is now a Captain again and doesn’t look like a caveman as much anymore. He dives into the airlock to get into a fistfight with him until Capt. Nippon says that they sunk a regular island and they bombed it until the surface was below the water. They’re connected to the mainland by a very long underground tunnel to other stations. He tries to scarper into the tunnels and pulls a knife on a captive American pilot they have prisoner, which forces Junior to leave, but he decides to hang around on the craft so he won’t lost track of where they are precisely. He calls CAPTAIN MARVEL to return to being Freddy before he finds the diving team leaving with their prisoner, only for Freddy to dive underwater and still call CAPTAIN MARVEL to wrest him away and punch back Capt. Nippon as he aims to launch a Giant 100-Ton Robomb! Captain Marvel, Jr. flies the pilot to safety and throws the 100-Ton Robomb back at them, destroying the Robomb Base, though Junior isn’t sure if Capt. Nippon is really dead or not.

Synopsis for Capt. Marvel, Jr.: "Sivana Slips Up!"

The villainous Dr. Sivana reveals a new invention to his goon Bugs: a powerfully slippery grease. Bugs asks how that helps and Sivana whispers it to him and he’s shocked. Later, Freddy Freeman spots “Bad” Bugs near the Bank as money is being brought in and recognizes that he’s one of Sivana’s men, so he hangs close by. Bugs drips some of the grease on the table and stands nearby. The tellers have the guards set the $200,000 from the Treasury Department, but it slides off the table and right into Bugs’ arms! He races off as the guards slip on the slippery grease, since he’s got Grip-Grit Shoes, dribbling grease behind him. Freddy calls CAPTAIN MARVEL to become Captain Marvel, Jr. who doesn’t need to step on the ground. Unfortunately, when he tries to fight Big Bugs, he finds he’s greased himself making punches slip right off of him! Bugs soon takes the loot back to Sivana and Junior follows them, only for Sivana to lock the door, making Junior realize he’s in a room where everything is greased, making it impossible for him to find purchase on any surface! Sivana tells Bugs he plans on using the grease to crash the Cannonball Special, a large train, which will get them tons of money… and kill hundreds! They soon connect it to crash into an express train carrying gold. Junior soon figures out he can get his fingers under the bottom of the window, which isn’t greased and lifts it. He flies out and punches Sivana and Bugs in the heads, despite the grease and detaches the sand dome off one of the trains and dumps it on the greasy criminals, then punches them out again.

Synopsis for Capt. Marvel, Jr.: "Capt. Marvel, Jr. and the Courage of the K-9!"

Freddy Freeman is peddling papers when he sees a really sad Army veteran on a bridge who suddenly falls off! He calls CAPTAIN MARVEL and becomes Captain Marvel, Jr. and rescues him, dragging him back up to safety. He asks what he was up to talking about a “lost friend” before he fell over and he reveals his sad story. He’s Joe Wagner, and he enlisted to the Army and his dog, Granger, into the K-9 Corps. However, he was reported KIA, but was found later wounded severely with shrapnel in both legs. However, they discharged Granger because they thought he was KIA and sold him to someone else! Junior offers to help him look into it and flies him off to K-9 HQ. A superior tells them that Granger, No. 821, was sold to a sheepherder in Montana named Frank Dawson, but could be at a nearby Rehab Center, where Army dogs are taught how to be soft and kind again. Junior finds this is dangerous work for some Army men when a dog breaks his chain, but Junior pries him off and they restrain the dog. Wagner is upset that he can’t get to Montana by any means, so Junior flies him there personally. They manage to find Dawson and find Granger, but Dawson says that Granger is a coward, never attacking wolves that are attacking his sheep. Junior investigate the sheep and finds that the red welt on Granger’s neck was a bullet graze and someone’s shot at him while he was defending the sheep! Junior and Granger work together to find the rustlers, who are just stealing his sheep and dumping bones to make it look like wolves did it. Junior fights off them as an attack dog goes for Wagner’s throat. Granger dives in and chases off the attack dog. Later, Dawson returns Granger to Wagner and Junior says that he did his best to help two war heroes like him and Granger. Later, he says that Pvt. Wagner and Granger are still together, as it should be.
