The Eradicator is one of four successors after the perceived death of Superman.
History
The Death of Superman
The Eradicator is a sentient artificial intelligence housed within a data crystal, acting as a repository of all things Kryptonian, sent to Earth along with an infant Kal-El in order to watch over and instruct the Kryptonian, following the destruction of Krypton. It operated out of the Kryptonian ship which brought Kal-El to Earth, which Superman donated to S.T.A.R. Labs so they might better understand the technology.
Following the death of Kal-El at the hands of Doomsday, the Eradicator takes control of the Kryptonian ship and claims the body of Superman from his tomb in Metropolis, bringing it back to the Fortress of Solitude to be revitalized.
Reign of the Supermen
The Eradicator is one of four entities which took up the mantle of Superman following his death in The Death of Superman, along with Superboy, Steel, and Cyborg Superman. Now existing as a hard light hologram garbed in the colors of Superman with the symbol of the House of El emblazoned on its chest, the Eradicator acts as the Man of Steel by dispensing absolute justice, eradicating any it deems a criminal.
Its first appearance in the Reign of the Supermen shows the Eradicator efficiently and brutally disposing of a group of criminals before confiscating a shipment of weapons they had received from LexCorp. The AI next appears at Lex Luthor's public unveiling of his clone of Superman, Superboy, where it declares the business mogul a criminal and attacks him, only to be intercepted by the Clone, Steel, and Cyborg Superman. The Eradicator is able to easily overpower both Superboy and Steel, before retreating after a clash with Cyborg Superman. Subsequent Daily Planet coverage of the Eradicator's actions report it making quick work of a gang stronghold.
When Steel travels to the Fortress of Solitude he is promptly attacked by the Eradicator, operating on its directive to protect Kryptonians, namely the unconscious Kal-El undergoing revitalization in the Kryptonian ship. Once again, the Eradicator has a clear advantage over John, progressing their battle to the point where it was about to deliver a finishing blow to Steel, only to be stopped with an order from Superman, emerging from stasis.
The AI then assists Kal-El in defeating Cyborg Superman, when the Man of Steel stabs the data crystal containing the Eradicator into Henshaw's robotic head. With the two entities now merged, Henry's mind is quickly eradicated by the AI.
