Eddie Thawne was a CCPD detective transferred from Keystone City, who became the partner of the detective Joe West and the fiancé of Iris West. The most famous of his descendants is Eobard Thawne, the super-villain Reverse-Flash. Years after his death, Eddie was resurrected as "Dr. Malcolm Gilmore" by the Negative Speed Force to become its new avatar: Cobalt Blue.
History
CCPD Detective
Eventually, Eddie became romantically involved with Iris West, the daughter of Joe. Eddie also became an ally of Team Flash after Barry Allen revealed to him his secret identity as the Flash.
To erase the Reverse-Flash's existence, Eddie shot himself in the heart as he is a direct ancestor of the speedster. His death created a paradox since Eddie did not leave behind any children to continue the Thawne name. So Eobard Thawne aka the Reverse-Flash was never born. The paradox also caused a wormhole to reopen and start expanding, pulling Eddie's body into it.
A New Life
Eddie was resurrected by the Negative Speed Force in 2049 to become its new avatar. He originally worked as a scientist at Mercury Labs known as "Dr. Malcolm Gilmore", until he was struck by a red lightning bolt from the Negative Force.[1][4]
