Dane (Prime Earth)

Dane, also known as Nevermore, is a student at the Roy Harper Titans Academy. He is the hybrid son of an unnamed woman and a demon.^[1]

History

Origins

Dane was conceived more than 130 years ago when a desperate woman unable to have a child struck a deal with the Dark Lord, promising him her soul and that of her child in exchange for a perfect moment together.

Dane was supposed to destroy the world and serve his father for all eternity but his mother refused to keep her word and hid herself in St. Michael's mission in Arizona hoping that Dane's father would not find them, still, she ultimately found out that it wasn't so easy to get out of his reach as she died soon after giving birth to her son, spending just a perfect moment together.^[1]

Titans Academy

Dane eventually became a student at the Titans Academy.^[3] After Billy Batson overhearing from a secret meeting between the Titans and Doctor Fate that the Rock of Eternity was in the Underrealm, Dane decided to go with him to Hell.^[4]

They went to the Casino de Dante Carlo and the two separated. Dane and Billy both got into conflict with Sulibak and his gang after Dane cheated on an already rigged game. While escaping, they received help from Amoreena, who revealed she was Sulibak's daughter and Billy managed to find the Rock of Eternity. With the source of his powers closer to him, Billy managed to transform once again and fight Sulibak until his powers started to fail again, though Dane saved him.^[5] While the two tried to escape they found Neron, who guided them back to the location of the Rock of Eternity. When Neron tried to betray them, Dane and Billy were saved by Raven.^[2] Raven took Dane back to the Academy, and Shazam decided to enter the Rock of Eternity.^[6]

When Dane began to transform into a demon who would bring about the Apocalypse, Brick Pettirosso desperately "protected" him from the Titans, destroying the Academy with a massive electrical blast. However, the Titans managed to evacuate the Academy and Shazam and Black Adam, Jr. were able to siphon most of his energy into the Rock of Eternity. The two champions of magic took Dane into the Rock, averting the prophesied Apocalypse without killing him.^[7]

  • Wings: Dane possesses a pair of angelic wings on his back.^[8]

  • Longevity: Dane has lived a long time since around 1890 (as of 2021, Dane was 138 years old), and at present he looks like a teenage boy.^[1]

      • Dimensional Travel: Dane is capable of creating portals to other dimensions.^[4]

Trivia

• Dane's father is known as the "Dark Lord",^[1] an epithet for the archangel Lucifer, but it has yet to be confirmed whether Lucifer is the said Dark Lord.
• The codename Nevermore is a reference to the Edgar Allen Poe poem, The Raven, which reflects his similar origins to Rachel Roth/Raven.
