Blue Beetle (Volume 6) #24 is an issue of the series Blue Beetle (Volume 6) with a cover date of May, 1988.
Synopsis for "If, At First, You Don't Succeed...!"
After Thomas revealed that he had come back to stop Ted from "running the company headlong into the ground", Melody revealed that she had asked the elder Kord to return, claiming that the younger was causing the company to suffer. Then, Ted confronted Melody about Randall Truman before Thomas broke up their argument followed by the younger Kord rushing down into his fortress, changing into Blue Beetle, and flying away in his Bug.
Melody thought about what Ted told her about Randy and she decided to visit the latter in his office before finding him with his wife Emily, who she previously did not know about, much to her disappointment before she stormed out. As Carapax stood under Lake Michigan, he recalled how he became the Indestructible Man on Pago Island and how Max Fisher and Blue Beetle prevented his escape from the island by dropping him into the ocean before walking the ocean floor and tracking the Bug to Blue Beetle's fortress.
Randy rushed to the disappointed Melody who slapped him and fired him before everyone in the building felt vibrations caused by Carapax. Everyone in the building attempted to evacuate while Blue Beetle returned and learned that Carapax had found him. Blue Beetle attempted to use different weapons to hurt Carapax, although most were ineffective.
On ground level, Thomas told Fisher that he did not know what was causing the vibrations. As the building became unstable and collapsed on Carapax, Blue Beetle ran and escaped the destruction of the headquarters in the Bug although the armored man had leaped into the aircraft. Blue Beetle initiated the Bug's self destruct and jumped out, leaving it to explode with Carapax.
Then, Ted returned to Thomas and Melody, who were standing before their ruined headquarters. When Melody told Ted that he was right about Randy, he claimed that he did not care and that she was a chapter of his life that recently closed and that he would leave Chicago the next morning. Ted told his father that he had already rebuilt Kord Industries from the ground up and that it was his turn to do the same.
