Blackbeard was a pirate.
History
In 1948 Samos City was raided and taken over by a bandit leader wearing antique clothing and calling himself Blackbeard. He and his crew dressed like 19th century freebooters but packed modern firearms, and Samos City had no national or international defenders. These bandits plundered at will and publicly murdered anybody who even talked back to them.
This went on until the world-famous Blackhawk Squadron was called in. After one brief shoot-out at the airport and another in the streets of Samos City, Blackbeard and many of his pirates lay dead, and the survivors were arrested. Nobody ever learned where "Blackbeard" came from or who he really was.

- This version of Blackbeard, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
