Batman Beyond (1999-2001) is a spin off of the popular Batman cartoons of the 1990s and showed an aged and bitter Bruce Wayne (who had retired his Batman persona years before) train a young boy, Terry McGinnis, to be Batman and fight the criminals of the future. Terry had accidentally discovered the identity of the legendary Batman. He later steals the technologically advanced Batman costume so he could exact revenge after his father was killed by a powerful industrialist. The elderly Bruce Wayne eventually has sympathy for the boy and agrees to train the young man as an apprentice.
It was announced on July 18, 2019, at San Diego Comic-Con that in celebration of its 20th anniversary, Batman Beyond would be remastered for a Blu-ray release on October 29, 2019. The limited edition set will include the complete series. While all 52 episodes of the series are included, only 41 are fully remastered; the other 11 were irreparably damaged in the intervening decades, and had to be "uprezzed" from older files. Also included is a chromed Batman Beyond Funko Pop, new featurettes, the Return of the Joker animated movie, and lenticular art cards.[1]
Regarding a possible fourth season, co-creator Bruce Timm stated that if the Blu-ray made numbers and created buzz, then that would make the possibility for a revival more likely.[2]
