Ra is the sun-god of the ancient Egyptian pantheon, creator of humankind.[1]
History
As the sun god, Ra must battle the great serpent of chaos Apep each night, and must defeat him so that the Sun can rise the next morning.[2]
Legend has it that Ra created the Metamorphae to aid him in his never-ending battle against the serpent Apep. There have been several known Metamorphae throughout history including Ahk-Ton, Rex Mason, Urania Blackwell, Jillian Conway and the Roman centurion, Algon, The Ancient Element Man.
In 1955, he empowered the sorcerer Doctor Fate, so he could defeat the ancient mummy known as Khalis.[1]
In more recent years, Ra was summoned at the behest of Urania Blackwell, who begged him to end her immortal existence. Ra granted her wish, and Urania was turned to powder.[3]
Ra is portrayed with the head of a falcon and shares characteristics with the also falcon-headed sun god Horus. The main difference in their iconography is that Horus does not carry the sun disk on his head. At times, the two deities were merged as Re-Harakht, "Ra, who is Horus of the Two Horizons".[2] Identified with another primordial god, Amon, Ra was fused with him as Amon-Ra.[1]

Powers
- Godly Physiology
- Cosmic Awareness: Ra can hear and comunicate with anyone who prays him through the sun.[3]
- Immortality: By Bast's words, "Gods can't die. We merely fade away." This means that while gods have worshipers, they will not die.[4]
- Power Absorption: Ra can take back the powers he grants through the Orb of Ra, he did so with Element Girl who begged him to let her die.[3]
- Power Distribution
- Superhuman Strength: He provides Black Adam with his great strength.
- Secret Word: The true name of Amon-Ra, which grants extraordinary mystical power (the few persons in the cosmos who know the name are the goddess Isis and the original Doctor Fate).[1]
- Size Alteration: All Egyptian gods can grow in size.[5]
Abilities
- Artifact Creation: Ra created the Orb of Ra.
Weaknesses
- Power Loss: Without followers, Ra will gradually lose his powers and fade away.[4]
