Altuum is the last survivor of the Enki people that lived on Themyscira before the Amazons and is an enemy of Wonder Woman.
History
Before the Gods of Olympus sent Hippolyta and her Amazons to the island of Themyscira they created an army from the damned souls of Tartarus to clear the island from Titans and monsters that infested it. In return for clearing Themyscira the gods promised them freedom and a second life. While the souls were successful in their task most of them perished and once the battle was over the Olympians betrayed them and destroyed the all but one of them. The survivor was Altuum, who managed to hide himself from the gods wrath.[1]
Over the years Altuum would come to resent the Amazons of Themyscira for their ownership of the island and the favour of the gods who had killed his people, whom he called the Enki. Consumed by his ancient grudge Altuum sought to outlive the Amazons and inherit Themyscira for the Enki people. He eventually sought to accelerate his plan when he heard that the three Amazon tribes were due to converge on Themyscira during a great trial and visited the amazon princess Diana at a museum exhibition on the Amazons in Washington, D.C.. He told Diana that the Enki people had inhabited Themyscira before they were forced off the island by the Amazons and warned that they were soon planning an attack on the Amazons. It is unclear if Altuum had truly forgot that he was the last survivor over the years of if he was simply lying to Diana as he escaped her attempt to apprehend him by blowing up part of the museum.[2]
When the trial of the Amazons was fully underway, Altuum executed his plan to destroy them by realising the monster Echidna in the Enki catacombs that lay underneath the Amazonian colosseum. The monster battled the tribes champions but was forced back behind Doom's Doorway by Diana and her step-mother.[3]
After the chaos of the trial was resolved, Diana forcibly boarded Altuum's submarine and interrogated him. With the Lasso of Truth he revealed to Diana the true history of the Enki people and realised the folly in his hatred for the Amazons. Diana offered to help Altuum out of his now sinking submarine but he refused and consigned himself to death, asking Diana to forgive him who in turn asked Altuum to forgive himself. She then left and Altuum presumably drowned not long after, although his fate is not certain.[1]
