Action Comics #656 is an issue of the series Action Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of August, 1990.

Synopsis for "Going to Blazes"

After the shooting's in Blaze's nightclub,[1] Jimmy Olsen and Jerry White are taken to the hospital in critical condition. Clark Kent hears about the news and hurries to the hospital. Right before he arrives, Jose Delgado leaves, determined to investigate as Gangbuster. Inside the medical room, the Black Racer appears, but only Clark can see him due to his super-senses. The Racer takes Superman and explains that a powerful and evil entity took the souls of the victims. They head towards Blaze's Nightclub and journey into a Boom Tube.

At the end of the tube, the Black Racer leaves Superman, and Superman arrives in Hell. He saves a blond girl from a giant dog, and this girl explains to the confused Superman that this is the place where the temptress Blaze takes the souls of her victims. She takes Superman to where Blaze holds the souls of Jerry and Jimmy, but the "blond girl" was Blaze in disguise, and she attacks Superman, throwing him into the river of fire. Blaze runs away, but Superman comes out of the fire pit, determined to save his friends' souls even if it costs him his life.
