Cabaret Courage is the first half of the twelfth episode of Season 4, preceding "Wrath of the Librarian".

The episode was produced in 2002 and premiered on Cartoon Network in the United States on November 15 of that year.

Plot[]

While in the famous city of "Hollowood", the Bagge family-Eustace, Muriel and Courage-are exploring the city. But, as they cross the street, the three fall through a manhole and end up in an underground cabaret. They are surrounded by human organs and a giant blob-like creature.

The creature explains to the Bagge family that he owns the venue and is looking for performers. The Bagges must perform for him and if he likes it, he will set them free and give Eustace a solid gold truck as well. Eustace rushes up on stage and begins to sing "Down upon the Swanee River" horribly. This causes the blob agony and he causes Eustace to fall through a trapdoor. Next, the blob asks Muriel to perform. Muriel is unsure, but the blob offers her fame and fortune, stating that she will be just like her favorite actress, Dolores Dolores. Muriel gets up on stage, much to Courage's horror, and sings "I'm Called Little Buttercup." The ulcer hates her performance and she, too, falls through a trapdoor.

The blob wants Courage to perform next and offers him the finest sirloin steaks in the world. Courage is tempted, but wants his owners to be released instead. The blob then offers fancy leather shoes for him to chew on. Again, this is tempting, but Courage wants his owners back. The blob says he will Courage's act, determined to know the dog's cost. Courage puts on a Tarzan style trapeze act, which the monster enjoys. The performance ends with Courage crashing through the floor of the stage where he witnesses Muriel and Eustace sinking in a pool of stomach acid.

Courage saves them and the blob is so moved by the display that he begins having a heart attack. Courage finds the blob's heart and saves him with CPR. The blob is again moved by Courage's good deed. He turns back into a man-a performer that used to perform in the cabaret. He was so disgusted with people's greed and willingness to sell their souls for fame and fortune that he turned into an ulcer inside his own stomach. Courage, Muriel and Eustace are free to leave, but Muriel decides she wants to finish her song for the sake of art. Everyone sits down to watch, but Di Lung interrupts and starts to sing. He gets sent down the trapdoor.
