Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2012!Dear Wotancito, Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 350,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from 36 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place. You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet). If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help. To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2012. Kind regards, |

Thanks for uploading File:AndrésCruzyCorro.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:AndrésCruzyCorro.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Photo requests in Mexico City
[edit]Hi! Do you know who is willing to do photo requests in Mexico City?
Thanks! WhisperToMe (talk) 03:36, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
- I mean taking photographs of buildings and places so Wikipedia articles may use these photos. One example: I am interested in having a photo of the main gate of the en:Liceo Mexicano Japones in the article about that school. All of the Mexico City-area photo requests are listed here: Commons:Picture_requests/Requests/North_America#Mexico_City.2FCiudad_de_M.C3.A9xico and Commons:Picture_requests/Requests/North_America#Mexico_State.2FEstado_de_M.C3.A9xico. Hope that helps! WhisperToMe (talk) 13:29, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Flickr2Commons
[edit]I have just come across a few images you have recently uploaded from Flickr. I would appreciate it if in the future, you used the Flickr2Commons tool. This tool allows images to be moved to Commons from Flickr without having to download the images to your own computer. It also brings in the largest resolution of the image, as well making sure to list the correct license and url, making it easy for the automated Flickr Review system. Also, it is fairly easy to categorize images with this tool. To use it, you just need to go to the url and authorize it (where it says "authorise first"). A1Cafel (talk) 10:49, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

- If you can have the website confirm they got permission to republish the post-1973 images from the creators, they can submit a VRT. We accept "no known restrictions" licenses from reliable sources, for instance Flickr Commons has hundreds of images of contemporary people from various sources in their SDASM Archives with "no known restrictions". You can also help identify the pre-1973 images and switch to "PD-Panama", and author=anonymous. Adding a category and then linking that category to Wikidata would be helpful too. See: File:Carmen Miró - 52871226555.jpg for a properly formatted and categorized image. --RAN (talk) 17:37, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
