File tagging File:Bruce Poliquin official congressional photo.jpeg
[edit]This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:Bruce Poliquin official congressional photo.jpeg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

Oklahoma images public domain
[edit]Hello! I am looking to upload some images of members of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. I saw that you uploaded File:EmilyVirgin.jpg, and stated that it was public domain. I'm not seeing anything about that on the OK Legislature page, and the Upload Wizard has public domain listings for NASA and the Federal Government, but I'm not seeing anything about a state government. Could I get your guidance on how to properly upload these pictures? Thanks! Balon Greyjoy (talk) 23:35, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
- Hey, Balon! It appears Oklahoma's Legislative Service Bureau gave permission to use members' official photo portraits. Not all states are so generous. In the Upload Wizard, when you get to Permission, select "Another reason not mentioned above" and use the copyright tag {{PD-OK-LSBPD}}. Happy uploading! Rockhead126 (talk) 06:22, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Virginia Senate Districts
[edit]Hello! I'm looking for historic maps of the Virginia House of Delegates or Senate districts. House of Delegates would be ideal, but Senate districts will also work. Where did you get your data? Do you know of any other digitized pre-2000 Virginia legislative maps? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scq5pe (talk • contribs) 18:22, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
- Hey, Scq5pe. Images like File:Virginia senate districts 1908.png, 1912, and 1916 that I created myself were made quite easily using free maps of Virginia counties and independent cities. I obtained the data from resources like A Register of the General Assembly of Virginia, 1776-1918, and of the Constitutional Conventions, which lists the makeup of each district. From the late nineteenth century through the first couple of decades of the twentieth century, state senatorial lines (and house lines, though to a lesser extent) rarely ignored existing political boundaries. This is unheard of nowadays thanks to equal-population requirements and gerrymandering.
- Post-1923 legislative manuals and other documents have these sorts of district descriptions, and some, I believe, even have maps, but it's difficult to find these digitized online thanks to copyright. I have some member lists going into the 40s that I obtained on a trip a few years ago to the Library of Virginia that I'd be happy to share if you like. It was my intent to get this information onto Wikipedia at some point, as I did with 109th Virginia General Assembly, though doing so is quite a lot of work, and I haven't gotten around to it. Hope this helps! Rockhead126 (talk) 21:34, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Cantrell.png
[edit]Copyright status: File:Cantrell.png
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Cantrell.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Cantrell.png]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Abzeronow (talk) 17:04, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
West Virginia blue book images
[edit]Hello. Hope you’re doing well today. I noticed you uploaded some photos that came from the West Virginia blue book. The copyright license mentions it is public domain. Is there anywhere that confirms its status? I have a few images I’d like to upload and want to be sure it’s good to do so. I didn’t find anything that said it was public domain, so I’m checking with you. I apologize if it’s an obvious answer, but I’m not too familiar with all the copyright stuff and don’t want to violate it. Thank you very much. What source did you use to determine the date of this photo?
[edit]Here: [1] https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File%3AROBINSON%2C_IRA_E._HONORABLE_LCCN2016862577.jpg&diff=910321683&oldid=670280998 Thanks, -- Ooligan (talk) 08:10, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, @Ooligan. I happened upon the photograph when I visited the article for Robinson on the English Wikipedia. I saw, at the time, that the photo was dated "circa 1905" there and, simply, "1905" on Commons. If you look at the photograph's entry in the Library of Congress catalog, however, it is listed, like most undated photos in the Harris & Ewing Collection, as having been taken between 1905 and 1945. I came to the estimate of circa 1928-1932 through deduction. Harris & Ewing was a Washington, D.C.-based studio, and those were the years Robinson was based in Washington. The photo was taken in 1935, at the latest, as it was reproduced that year in the book West Virginians of 1934-1935, published by The Wheeling Intelligencer, and Robinson looks significantly older in the photo than he does in photos taken in the 1910s, like this one. He looks to be roughly the same age as he is in photos taken during his time on the Federal Radio Commission. Rockhead126 (talk) 00:22, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
